A cedar deck looking west to the Rockies. Built for the view, and for the snow that sits on it.
The house already had the view. It needed a floor that could hold a dinner, a storm, and a decade of chinooks without racking. We framed a two-level cedar deck with a cable rail that disappears against the prairie sky, planter boxes that drain through the structure, and a stair that lands on the lawn instead of fighting it. Every board is face-screwed from below or clipped, so the walking surface is just grain and shadow.
